Our Services and Programs

Our Services

Social work services are available to assist you and your families with adjustment issues related to the diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship of cancer through supportive counseling.  Social work services are also appropriate if you need assistance in obtaining treatment for substance abuse problems, or if you have practical problems involving financial/insurance, work/school, housing, transportation, and child care issues.  Finally, our social worker can help you if you need information or links to community resources.

CLIMB

Children’s Lives Include Moments of Bravery (CLIMB) is a special support program developed by the Children’s Treehouse Foundation, a non-profit foundation dedicated to the emotional support of children who have parents with cancer.  Our facilitators have been specially-trained to provide this program.

CLIMB is a six-week educational and support program for children ages 6-12, whose parents or grandparents have cancer.  The series includes brief talks about treatment, crafts and discussion.  Light dinner is included.  Revolving admission.  For information, call Wendy Peterson, APRN at (860) 344-6763.

According to program facilitator, Wendy Peterson, R.N., M.S.N., A.P.R.N., “Families who have participated in CLIMB have come back to say that their children seem more relaxed and expressive about their feelings after they finish the program. It is very gratifying to be able to help children effectively communicate how they feel, which will naturally assist them in coping throughout their lives.”

REACH

This support program is for adolescents ages 13-19 who have cancer in their family.  The three-hour event features doctors speaking about cancer and it's treatments and a tour of the Middlesex Hospital Cancer Center facilities.  Pizza is included.  Revolving admission.  For information, call Wendy Peterson, APRN at (860) 344-6763
