Survivorship Program
Survivorship begins at the Middlesex
Hospital Cancer
Center. We know
that cancer survivors find many areas of their lives are altered following
their treatment. Many times they must deal with a host of medical problems that
have resulted from their cancer and its treatments, including significant
cognitive losses, chronic pain, weakness and fatigue. They also have complex
changes in their personal relationships and their work environment. Survivors
often have an ongoing fear of cancer recurrence.
To help our patients through the process of survivorship, we have developed a
comprehensive list of services, including:
1. A comprehensive Distress Management Program
2. An Integrative Medicine Consult service with a staff physician and a residency-trained Fellow.
3. A clinical “Survivorship” pathway with referrals to
- Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
- Nutrition
- Weight Management
- Smoking Cessation
- Case Management
- Genetic Counseling
- Preventative Screening Examinations (Mammography, Colonoscopy, etc).
4. Survivorship Programs including: “Coping”, “Back to Work”, “What Now?”; financial management referrals and referrals to Supportive Living and/or Hospice/ Palliative Care programs.
5. Provide education and outreach to patients and providers in our community and beyond.
