Outpatient Infusion Center
The outpatient Infusion Center (OIC) is an ambulatory care setting located on the ground floor of the hospital. It is part of the Hospital’s Cancer Center and its operation is overseen by the Director of Inpatient Services. Comparable services are also offered at Middlesex Medical Center-Shoreline.
The vast majority of the patients seen in the OIC set up an appointment to receive treatment on an outpatient basis. The greatest proportion of patients seen in the OIC have an underlying diagnosis of cancer, but a variety of patients with medical problems related to such diseases as M.S., Lyme Disease, AIDS, chronic renal failure and anemia are also seen.
What can I expect during a treatment session at the OIC?
You will set up an appointment based on the treatment plan you have discussed with your doctor and visit the OIC to receive treatment. For cancer patients, this is the location where you would receive your chemotherapy treatment. During your visit, a certified chemotherapy nurse will be administrating your chemotherapy. Our nurses can also provide you with information about symptom management and education regarding your specific cancer.
Psychosocial and nutritional support services are also provided at the Cancer Center.
