What is pulmonary rehabilitation?
Pulmonary rehabilitation is a program of both education and exercise classes. It will teach you about your lungs, how to exercise and do activities with less shortness of breath, and how to live better with your lung condition.
How do I know if I need pulmonary rehabilitation?
- Any patient with impaired pulmonary endurance is appropriate for therapy.
- A script signed by physician or pulmonologist for pulmonary rehabilitation within 30 days of patient’s first visit to outpatient therapy.
- Script may be hand-delivered, mailed, faxed or electronically faxed.
- Include any post medical history, recent pulmonary function test or any other pertinent information.
When and where are classes offered?
These educational classes are offered once a month on the first and third Wednesdays from 1:00 to 2:00pm. Classes are held at Middlesex Hospital Outpatient Center, 534 Saybrook Road, Middletown, on the 2nd floor in the Physical Rehab and Hand Therapy Department. Better Breather's Club
What is the Better Breathers’ Club?
The Better Breathers’ Club was formed to help patients with respiratory diseases cope with their difficulties. The group is run by a respiratory therapist, rehabilitation therapists, educators, pulmonologist, and patients. Working together as a team, we can enhance the education of the patient and their families about the respiratory illness from which they suffer. This Club provides free education and a support group for people with COPD, asthma, and other chronic lung disease.
When and where is the Club held?
The Club members meet on the 3rd Wednesday of the month from 3:00 to 4:00 pm. The Club is located on 534 Saybrook Road, Middletown, on 2nd floor in the Rehabilitation Department. Refreshments will be served and guest speakers are announced monthly.
