Comprehensive Breast Center
As only the third hospital in Connecticut to receive accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), Middlesex Hospital’s Comprehensive Breast Center is a full-service specialty center for all of our patients with breast-related clinical needs.
Utilizing a professional team approach, the Comprehensive Breast Center offers patients the latest in technology and advanced diagnostic procedures; quick access to medical and/or surgical oncology services and the added value of the personal service of a Nurse Navigator for each patient diagnosed with breast cancer.
“Our goal in developing the Comprehensive Breast Cancer was to ensure that our scope of services was complete and that we made those services available to patients in a way that was simultaneously as cohesive and convenient as possible. Both the scope of service and the manner in which it is delivered are measured during accreditation. In order to achieve accreditation a center must demonstrate that it can deliver outstanding treatment in a consistent manner,” says Andrea Malon M.D., Medical Director, Middlesex Hospital Cancer Center.
“We develop a relationship with the patient from the beginning, answer their questions and do everything we can to make the experience as easy as possible for them.” Patricia O’Brien, nurse navigator, RN, OCN, CBCN.
What is a Comprehensive Breast Center?
A comprehensive breast center offers everything from surveillance, to diagnosis, and treatment whether the diagnosis is benign or malignant. High risk patients are managed right here at the cancer center.
The center offers diagnostic tests, surgical services including breast surgery, plastic surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, clinical trials, the Center for Survivorship, and supportive services.
