Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy
Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy (LSG) is a new form of laparoscopic surgery that reduces the size of the stomach. The stomach is made smaller by stapling so that it takes the shape of a sleeve that will act as a new smaller stomach.
How does a sleeve gastrectomy help you lose weight ?
This procedure limits the amount of food you can eat and helps you feel full sooner. It allows for normal digestion and absorption. Food consumed passes through the digestive tract in the usual order, allowing it to be fully absorbed in the body.
The sleeve gastrectomy procedure
The majority of these surgeries are performed using a laparoscopic technique, which is considered minimally invasive. It is performed under general anesthesia and it requires only a small abdominal incision. The surgery usually takes about one hour. Your stay in the hospital is 2-3 days. Patients usually return to normal activities in 2 weeks and are fully recovered in 3 weeks.
