South Fire District Donates to Cancer Center
The Middletown South Fire District Firefighters Local 3918 IAFF recently donated $600 to the Middlesex Hospital Cancer Center. The firefighters raised the money from a food booth at their recent annual Fire Safety Festival during October, which is breast cancer awareness month.
The funds will be used to provide services to breast cancer patients at the hospital, through its Comprehensive Breast Center. The hospital center is fully accredited — only the third hospital in Connecticut to receive this national designation. In meeting these established standards, the center provides a multidisciplinary, technologically advanced approach to care. The comprehensive program provides clinical, diagnostic and support services to patients before, during and after their services and treatment.
According to Local 3918 President, James Mastroianni, “This is the second year that the firefighters have made a donation for breast cancer services to Middlesex Hospital. Many of us have family or friends who are fighting breast cancer. The donation is our way of helping to provide support for cancer services in our local community.”
