Visitor Restrictions Due to Flu

Due to the prevalence of the flu in Connecticut, Middlesex Hospital is now limiting visitors to immediate family members or a designated support person. A maximum of two visitors may visit a patient at one time, and all visitors must be at least 18 years of age unless special permission is granted. These restrictions are effective immediately.

Anyone with flu-like symptoms will not be allowed to visit patients at the Hospital. Symptoms can
include fever, vomiting and coughing, diarrhea, body aches and headaches.

Anyone who visits a patient at the Hospital must clean their hands.

Advance Directives

An Advance Directive is a legal document that states your personal wishes regarding your health care should you suddenly become unable to make decisions for yourself. This documentation can take the form of a Living Will, Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care, Health Care Agent, or Organ Donation.

It is very important that your family, physician, and the Hospital be made aware of your desires for health care. After considering your values, religious beliefs, and the quality of life you wish to maintain, you may decide to make an Advance Directive such as a Living Will. This can be done at little or no cost and can give you peace of mind.

You will be asked for a copy of your Advance Directives upon admission to the hospital.

If you would like more information about Advance Directives, a brochure, or just would like to speak privately with a health care professional about any of these matters, you may contact the Social Work Office at Middlesex Hospital at (860) 358-6162.
