goPINK Kicks Off 2022 Cancer Center Fundraising Campaign

Press Release, September 29, 2022

MIDDLETOWN — Now in its 13th year, goPINK continues to raise money for Middlesex Health Cancer Center in unique ways.

New this year is “What The Duck?” Collaborating with the City of Middletown, Middletown Downtown Business District, Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce and Middlesex Health Cancer Center, 50 local businesses purchased and decorated wooden ducks to help raise awareness of early cancer detection. The ducks will be on display in downtown Middletown October 10 through October 28. Members of the public will be able to vote for their favorite duck and will be entered to win prizes.

There are several other ways to support goPINK.

You can enter a drawing to win a handmade quilt, make a donation in honor of Dr. Anwar Khan, a Middlesex Health radiation oncologist, and attend the goPINK Party on October 20 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Café Fiore in Cromwell. Tickets are $25 and include appetizers and entertainment.

In addition, the virtual goPINK Duck Race is back again this year. It will be held October 31 at 2 p.m., and it will be streamed live on Facebook @gopinkproject. The donors whose ducks reach the finish line first win prizes. A donation of $10 will include one duck in the race, and a $30 donation includes three ducks. If you donate $500 or more, a larger size duck will be entered in the race for you.

Similar to past years, you can also make a general donation. All support is welcome. Local businesses and schools will also be raising money in various ways for the cause.

Over the years, goPINK has raised more than $330,000 for Middlesex Health Cancer Center. All proceeds help cancer patients receive free integrative medicine therapy, including patients who have breast cancer.

Integrative medicine includes massage therapy, reflexology and acupuncture. These are therapies that are not covered by insurance, and they help patients with symptoms of cancer treatment, including fatigue, pain and even nausea.

“Middlesex Health truly appreciates the efforts of goPINK,” says Sarah Moore, director of development for the health system. “By contributing, you are helping your neighbors as they go through the challenges that come with a cancer diagnosis.”
