UPDATE – Saturday, February 24, 2018

MIDDLETOWN

Middlesex Hospital has resumed providing emergency care to walk-in patients.

It is still not receiving patients via ambulance, and the Hospital’s normal Emergency Department
location in Middletown is still closed until further notice.

Patients who visit the Hospital’s temporary Emergency Department space should drive to the main
entrance of the Hospital. At that point, a security officer will be there to greet them. The officer will
then direct them to where they need to go.

If someone is sick or injured and needs immediate attention, they should call 9-1-1. An ambulance will bring them to the next nearest emergency department. Middlesex’s other Emergency Department locations in Westbrook and Marlborough are open.

Patients are now allowed to receive visitors. Flu restrictions remain in place.

All other Middlesex Health System locations are operating as normal.

Junior Volunteers

The 2018 Junior Volunteer Summer Program is now full. No further applications are being accepted at this time.

People age 15 years to 18 years of age are also welcome to apply to become volunteers. If you are under 18 years of age, you will be a part of our Junior Volunteer program, usually in the summer months. We take 50 students each summer to work in a variety of departments. We also have a limited number of positions after school and weekends for Juniors during the school year who wish to continue volunteering after the summer program ends each year. You need to be able to complete a minimum of 8 weeks of volunteering in order to participate in the summer program. If you are unable to make that commitment we ask that you not even apply.

The application process is similar to that of an adult volunteer.  Juniors must contact the Volunteer Office directly at 860-358-6735. There are additional forms to complete which include parental permission forms and a health form to take to your doctor. There are also application completion dates that need to be met for the summer program in order to guarantee acceptance into the summer program.  Final decision as to acceptance in to the program will be made by the Director of Volunteers after all in-person interviews are completed.
