Dr. Wang, a doctor of osteopathic medicine, is the newest member of the Middlesex Hospital Surgical Alliance, a group that incudes several other      surgical specialists. She comes to the Hospital from Beebe Medical Group in Lewes, Del.

Dr. Wang specializes in surgical oncology, but will also perform general surgeries. She performs a variety of procedures, including, but not limited to, surgeries for gastric cancer, pancreatic cancer and hepatobiliary cancer.

As she shares her medical expertise, Dr. Wang also offers extra support to her patients. She says patients should understand what is happening and their choices, and she takes the time to explain diagnoses, prognoses, and treatment options to her patients.

As she begins with Surgical Alliance, Dr. Wang is anxious to collaborate with her new colleagues in an effort to ensure that all patients have the best possible outcomes. She says collaboration can foster new ideas and potentially result in patients receiving care sooner.

To help her patients, Dr. Wang will utilize Middlesex Hospital's Cancer Center to keep them near their homes and support systems.

“The goal is to try to keep the patient in the community,” she says.

Dr. Wang will also use the genetic testing and related screenings offered at the Hospital, including a new screening program for individuals with a high risk of pancreatic cancer based on a strong family history and genetic predisposition – a program that may help detect tumors earlier, when treatment is easier. Currently, there is no available test for screening the general population for pancreatic cancer.

Dr. Wang earned her bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Rutgers University and her doctor of osteopathic medicine from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey’s School of Osteopathic Medicine. She was an intern and resident in general surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey’s New Jersey Medical School and a surgical oncology fellow at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in New York. She was also a visiting surgical oncology fellow in gastric cancer surgery at the Seoul National University Hospital in South Korea.

Dr. Wang practices in Middletown. For more information about Dr. Wang and the surgical services she provides, visit www.middlesexhospital.org or call 860-358-2780.
