Oncology

Erika Brault
Erika, a board certified physical therapist, has practiced physical therapy since 2001. She has a second certification in vestibular rehab.

Erika has a special interest in orthopedics, neurological rehab and vestibular rehab. She has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Rutgers University, a master’s degree from Sacred Heart University and a doctorate from Northeastern University in physical therapy.

McKenzie Method

Daniel Ludwig
Daniel, a board certified physical therapist, has worked for Middlesex Hospital since 2000. Daniel is especially interested in the rehabilitation of orthopedic disorders both before and after surgery.

He is a McKenzie Method certified therapist who specializes in the evaluation and treatment of neck and back disorders. Daniel is also a certified Kinesio Taping Method provider and has experience in the evaluation and fabrication of custom foot orthotics. Daniel earned his bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from Daemen College in Amherst, New York.

Lymphedema

Michelle Aafedt
Michelle has worked as a board certified occupational therapist since 2006. She primarily worked with neurology patients until becoming a certified lymphedema specialist in 2006.

Michelle received her associate’s degree as a certified occupational therapist from Manchester Community College and her bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from American International College.

Pelvic Health

Carolyn Daniels
Carolyn has worked for Middlesex Hospital since 1993 and is a board certified physical therapist. She earned her bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from Quinnipiac University.

Since 2011, Carolyn's focus has been on pelvic health education and career development, and she is the lead therapist for the Hospital’s pelvic health and incontinence training program. Carolyn’s special areas of interest are treatment of the pelvis, hip and spine, as well as treatment of bowel and bladder incontinence and pelvic pain for men and women of all ages.

Hand Therapy

Ann Roth
Ann is a Quinnipiac University graduate. She became a certified hand therapist in 1997 and has worked closely with various hand surgeons along the shoreline.

Ann has extensive experience treating and splinting trauma patients and patients after surgery. She enjoys providing community education and has lectured at educational conferences on various topics, including hand fractures and wrist injuries.

Pulmonary Rehab

Kristen Hoyt
Kristen, a board certified occupational therapist, earned her bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from Quinnipiac University.

She worked in skilled nursing facilities with the adult and geriatric population for more than 10 years, specializing in post-stroke patients and custom wheelchair design and managing a rehabilitation department. Kristen also worked in an outpatient rehabilitation facility at Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford, where she specialized in working with patients with head and traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, patients who suffered from strokes, and patients who needed vision rehabilitation.

Kristen has worked for Middlesex Hospital since 2007 in various capacities. This includes work in the acute hospital setting and in outpatient departments. Kristen has an important role in the Hospital’s pulmonary rehabilitation program, while also seeing patients with orthopedic, post-surgical and neurological diagnoses.

Lee Silverman Voice Technique Big and Loud

Rebecca Burrell
Rebecca, an inpatient therapy supervisor and a board certified speech and language pathologist, earned her bachelor’s degree in speech communication from Saint Mary’s College and has a master’s degree in speech-language pathology from Syracuse University.

Rebecca has treated patients in many settings, including in schools, through Homecare and at outpatient rehabilitation and Hospital facilities.

Areas of expertise include the evaluation and treatment of Aphasia, cognitive deficits following an acquired brain injury, swallowing, voice disorders and child language. She received an award for continuing education from the American Speech Language Hearing Association and is an acquired brain injury specialist.

Rebecca has lectured at Sacred Heart University and teaches a course on facilitating child language acquisition through the East Haddam Early Childhood Council. She has worked at Middlesex Hospital since 2012.
