Medical Oncology / Hematology
If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with hematology (diseases of the blood) or oncology (cancer) problems, we know what a frightening and confusing time this is. You should know that modern advances in cancer research have made treatment more effective than ever, and the Connecticut Oncology Group offers patients the hope they need with the state-of-the-art treatment they deserve. We also have two Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs), seven chemotherapy-certified nurses and an onsite hematology lab with certified medical technicians on staff to best server our patient’s needs.
Our Medical Oncology Services
Our medical oncologists are expertly trained to develop and oversee a treatment plan for your specific type of cancer. They’ll spend the time to explain your diagnosis and review all your available treatment options—and they’ll work closely with you to control any symptoms from your illness or treatment.
When it comes time for treatment, if chemotherapy is chosen as the best route, you’ll receive your treatments in our comfortable chemotherapy infusion suite, which is staffed by our chemotherapy-certified nurses. And, if it’s necessary based on your type of cancer, we may also recommend a surgeon and/or a radiation oncologist to help determine and provide the absolute best course of treatment for you.
You should also know that at Middlesex Hospital Cancer Center, we don’t just focus on treating your cancer—we treat the whole you. So, if you need any additional services—such as occupational or physical therapy, nutrition counseling, psychosocial support or financial counseling—we make sure you receive them at every step of the way during your treatment.
