All of our Internal Medicine physicians are board-certified, many with other specialties and special interests. The individual staffs are experienced, knowledgeable caregivers and will do all they can to make your visit comfortable and informative.

Dr. Abarientos received her medical degree from Far Eastern University and completed her Internship at Sound Shore Medical Center at Westchester. She is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Ioanna Anastasiadis, P.A.-C
Ioanna Anastasiadis, P.A.-C, is a Physician Assistant who joined MHPC Essex in November of 1996. She received her degree in Biology from Fairfield University. She graduated from Quinnipiac University Physician Assistant Program with a Masters Degree in Health Science in 1996.
Elin L. Christensen, M.D.
Dr. Christensen is a member of Shoreline Medical Associates. She is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Christensen graduated from Yale University School of Medicine and completed her residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital. She specializes in Internal Medicine, Adult Health Care.
Raymond L. D'Amato, M.D.
Dr. D'Amato is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is a graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, and he completed his residency at Wilmington Medical Center and St. Francis Hospital.
Peter S. Dixon, M.D.
Dr. Dixon is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Dr. Dixon completed his internship at University Hospitals of Cleveland and Miriam Hospital. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Brown University.
Robert E. Fales, M.D.
Dr. Fales is a Senior Attending member of the Medical Staff at Middlesex Hospital. A graduate of Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, Dr. Fales completed his internship at University of Maryland School of Medicine and his residency at New Britain General Hospital. He has special interest in high altitude medicine.
Wayne P. Franco, M.D.
Dr. Franco is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. After graduating from Georgetown University Medical Center, Dr. Franco completed his internship at University of Connecticut Health Center, and his residency at St. Mary's Hospital.
Marina Ionita, M.D.
Marina Ionita, MD is board certified in Internal Medicine. She has been in practice since 2004.
Zoë McGlamery, APRN-BC
Zoë McGlamery, APRN received her Bachelor of Science (BS) from Columbia School of Nursing. She earned her Master of Science Nursing (MSN) from Frontier Nursing University and is certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners as a Family Nurse Practitioner. As a Connecticut native and resident of the lower Connecticut River Valley, Zoë enjoys caring for the people in her community.
C. Brendan Montano, M.D.
A graduate of Albany Medical College, Dr. Montano completed his residency at St. Francis Hospital. He has special interest in depression and anxiety disorders, as well as bariatric medicine.
Marie H. Monticciolo, M.D.
Dr. Monticciolo, board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, graduated from New York Medical College. She completed her residency at St. Mary's Hospital.
Richard Monticciolo, M.D.
Dr. Monticciolo, a Senior Attending physician at Middlesex Hospital, is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He graduated from New York Medical College. He completed his internship at Hospital of St. Raphael and Yale-New Haven Hospital. Dr. Monticciolo completed his residency at St. Mary's Hospital.
Ewa Ruggieri, M.D.
Dr. Ruggieri graduated from the Medical School of Lublin, Poland, and completed her residency at New York Methodist Hospital, Brooklyn, NY. She speaks English, Polish, and Russian. Dr. Ruggieri is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Andrea Schaffner, M.D.
Dr. Schaffner is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and in the ABIM subspecialty of Geriatric Medicine. A graduate of Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons, she completed her residency training and a fellowship in geriatrics at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Dr. Schaffner has a special interest in geriatric care.
Raymond B. Schoonmaker, Jr., M.D.
Dr. Schoonmaker is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in the subspecialties of critical care medicine and pulmonary disease. He graduated from New York University School of Medicine, and completed his residency at Stanford University Hospital and his fellowship at St. Vincent Hospital Worcester Medical Center.

Michael Spada is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. He attended the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and did his residency there as well.
Timothy A. Tobin, M.D.
Board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Tobin is a Senior Attending physician at Middlesex Hospital. He graduated from Ohio State University College of Medicine, and completed his residency training at Riverside Methodist Hospital.
Christa N. Wittmann, D.O.
Dr. Wittman earned her medical degree at Nova Southeastern University in Florida, and completed her residency at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. She has special interests in preventative medicine as well as skin diseases.
