Coordinated, comprehensive, cutting-edge surgical care for gynecologic cancer.

During a woman's lifetime, it's possible to face a reproductive problem that could require surgery. Some common conditions include ovarian cysts, fibroids, gynecologic cancer, or abnormal reproductive tract development.

Our surgeons work closely with doctors from our Cancer Center to provide the best possible care for patients with gynecologic cancers. Treatment of these cancers often involves surgery, and we are proud to have a team of surgical oncologists who specialize in minimally-invasive treatment for gynecologic cancer - so you can get back to doing the things you love.

At Middlesex Health, our expert gynecologic surgeons use the da Vinci® Robot to perform more precise and efficient surgeries. This advanced technology allows for smaller incisions, a lower risk of infection, less pain, and a faster recovery than traditional open surgery.

Common Gynecologic Surgeries

Hysteroscopy is a procedure that allows a surgeon to look inside your uterus to diagnose and treat the causes of abnormal bleeding. Hysteroscopy uses a hysteroscope, a thin, lighted tube inserted into your vagina to examine your cervix and the inside of your uterus. An operative hysteroscopy can be used to remove polyps, fibroids, and adhesions.

A hysterectomy is a surgical procedure that removes your uterus. After surgery, you can’t become pregnant and no longer menstruate. Reasons for this surgery include abnormal bleeding, uterine prolapse, fibroids, and cancer. Recovery usually takes four to six weeks, depending on the type of surgery you have.

Your healthcare provider will discuss which type of hysterectomy is needed depending on your condition. This will determine if your fallopian tubes and/or ovaries need to be removed.

A salpingectomy is a surgical procedure where one or both of a woman's fallopian tubes are removed. It's performed to treat certain conditions of the fallopian tubes and ectopic pregnancies and as a preventative measure for women at higher risk of developing ovarian cancer. At Middlesex Health, our surgeons are trained to perform salpingectomy through a minimally invasive (laparoscopic) approach, which reduces bleeding and allows for a faster recovery time.

An ovarian cystectomy is a procedure to remove ovarian cysts. An ovarian cyst is a sac or pouch on your ovary that contains fluid. These cysts are fairly common and often go away on their own without treatment. Your healthcare provider may recommend an ovarian cystectomy if you have an ovarian cyst that doesn’t go away, gets larger or causes pain.
