Bio
James D. Whalen, MD, FAAD is a fellowship-trained dermatologist at Central Connecticut Dermatology.
Dr. Whalen is certified by the American Board of Dermatology. He completed his fellowship in dermatologic surgery and Mohs micrographic surgery at Brown University, where he also completed his residency. Dr. Whalen earned his medical degree, and performed his internship in internal medicine and pediatrics, at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. During his internship, Dr. Whalen also completed a research fellowship in wound healing.
Dr. Whalen's specialty is caring for patients with skin cancer, particularly through the use of Mohs micrographic surgery. He is passionate about restoring function and appearance after surgery for his skin cancer patients and is committed to achieving the best possible cure rates.
Prior to co-founding Central Connecticut Dermatology, Dr. Whalen held multiple leadership and teaching roles at the University of Connecticut. These positions included professor of dermatology, vice-chair of the Department of Dermatology, and director of Mohs micrographic surgery.
