Nurse Residency Program
At Middlesex Hospital, we want to be sure we’re the right fit for you. We accept applications for the Nurse Residency Program from senior nursing students beginning in December of each year. Interviews are conducted in the late winter and spring. Graduate nurses accepted to the program begin in June or July of each year. If there are no Graduate Nurse Resident positions listed in the job search section, applications are not being accepted at the time.
Here are a few things you should know about us:
Anything but excellence is not an option.
We are proud to be Connecticut’s first Magnet hospital. Magnet designation is given to hospitals that demonstrate the highest levels of excellence in nursing care and patient outcomes. Magnet nurses have supportive leadership and a strong voice in the decision-making process enabling them to deliver high-quality patient care.
Top-notch care always comes first.
Middlesex Hospital has once again been named as one of Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals®, the only hospital in Connecticut named to the list two years running.
Nursing commitment and expertise.
We proudly boast a nursing vacancy rate below national averages. We place a high value on certification, with nearly 35% of our direct care nurses and more than 70% of our nurse leaders being certified in their specialty.
We support our new grads because we want them to learn – and stay.
We offer a robust orientation, a well-rounded 12-month nurse residency program, ongoing support, monthly seminars and 1:1 precepting for at least the first 3 months. We offer great nurse/patient ratios in a collaborative patient care environment. In addition you will be supported by a leadership team committed to your professional growth.
Your career should suit your interests.
While most of our nurse residents enter the program into a Medical/Surgical track, we also offer specialty opportunities in Maternity, Psychiatry, Critical Care, Emergency Department and Surgical Services. Nurse Residents are also encouraged to be involved in our staff-driven Nursing Councils and unit based initiatives.
We see it as a benefit having you part of the team.
That’s why we go the extra mile to offer you benefits such as excellent tuition and
certification reimbursement, a professional advancement program, and access to state-of- the-art simulation lab (beginning spring 2010).

The Middlesex Hospital Nurse Residency program is designed to facilitate this process and provide you with the tools you need.

And as both a Magnet® and Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospital®, you can be confident that you will be surrounded with advanced knowledge and expertise.
We would genuinely like you on-board.
If you have a degree from an accredited nursing program, Bachelor’s preferred, with eligibility of obtaining Connecticut licensure within the first 3 months of hire, we would like to hear from you.
