Free Screenings to Local Veterans at High Risk for Lung Cancer

Most veterans are at a 25-50% higher risk for lung cancer than their civilian counterparts, due to smoking history and exposures to known carcinogens, including Agent Orange.

The Middlesex Hospital Total Lung Care Center is offering a free risk assessment to local veterans at several locations in November. If the risk assessment determines that a low dose CT scan is needed, staff will help those veterans figure out how to get it done. All veterans who feel they could be at high risk are encouraged to attend one of the following screenings:

Friday, November 9

10:00 a.m. – noon

Middlesex Hospital Cancer Center Atrium

536 Saybrook Road, Middletown

2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Center

260 Westbrook Road, Essex

Saturday, November 10

10:00 a.m. – noon

Community Health Center

675 Main Street, Middletown

2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Middlesex Hospital Marlborough Medical Center

14 Jones Hollow Road, Marlborough

The screening and testing are free. Coffee and doughnuts will be served. No pre-registration is required. For more information, please call Gean Brown, (860) 358-2066 or Katharine Conroy at (860) 358-2015. The screenings are being held in collaboration with the Lung Cancer Alliance and the Vietnam Veterans of America.
